Tara LeAnn: This song came through during a time when I was struggling to accept my “dark” side. It sounds crazy: as the words came to me, I didn’t consciously think about any particular Mary, rather, about a sunny sort of “girl next door” with an old-fashioned name. Many people connect this song with the divine feminine in all her forms.
I feel deeply that when we all begin to shine as we’re meant to, humanity will metamorphose into a spectacular potential that none of us can yet imagine.
lyrics
There once was a woman named Mary
So fair
She spread beauty everywhere
Was she afraid of the dark?
I don't think she ever saw it
She was so bright
That no darkness could come near
Mary's light shone bright and clear
Mary, Mary
Shine so bright
I would stay with you in light
I'll stay with you here tonight
We are all like Mary
So fair
We spread beauty everywhere
Let your light shine bright and clear
Yours is a special beauty
Shining
With the love that flows through you
Let your light shine always true
Mary, Mary
Shine so bright
I would stay with you in light
We're here together, tonight
